United Kingdom - February 05, 2025 A groundbreaking live trial has demonstrated the potential of robots, including robot dogs and drones, to revolutionize bomb disposal operations, dramatically reducing risks to military personnel. Led by Ministry of Defence scientists, the four-day trial conducted by the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) featured advanced robotic systems that successfully detected and defused bomb threats. Key highlights from the trial included robots using sensors to remotely classify and identify threats, bomb disposal tasks performed by robot dogs, and drones equipped with AI for autonomous detection of threats and people. The robots also showcased capabilities like opening doors and climbing stairs. This trial marks a significant step in the UK Government’s Plan for Change, integrating cutting-edge technology to enhance national security while accelerating the advancement of new innovations in defense. The project saw collaboration between Dstl and leading British and international companies such as L3Harris, Marlborough Communications Ltd, and AeroVironment.
