Stunning starling murmuration seen over Cumbria in northern England
This is the spectacular moment a stunning starling murmuration was seen over Cumbria in northern England.
Footage captured by amazed resident Alan Cleaver shows the spontaneous aerial choreography of more than 10,000 birds gliding and dancing in unison over Distington, near Whitehaven, on February 7 at 5 pm.
The breathtaking natural phenomenon lasted for around 15 minutes before the birds settled onto nearby reed beds to roost for the night.
Alan said: 'Witnessing thousands of birds flying as one is a humbling and unforgettable sight.'
Birds group fly together in murmurations to stay warm, confuse predators, communicate, save energy, or find food.
