Cape Town, South Africa - February 09, 2025 A massive fire ripped through the Nyanga taxi terminus on Sunday night, leaving thirteen taxis, four sprinter buses, and a civilian vehicle gutted. X user Zukile Daniel posted a video of the blaze on February 9, stating, "16 Taxis have been set on fire in Nyanga terminus… Firefighters are currently on the scene." Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson Jermaine Carelse said crews battled strong winds before extinguishing the flames at 23:40. No injuries were reported, but the cause remains unknown. Police have launched an arson investigation, with additional officers deployed to the area. Brigadier Novela Potelwa confirmed that forces will stay in place "until calm is restored." The incident follows recent violence at the Nyanga taxi rank, where a shooting last month left one dead and seven injured.
