STANDUP (English): LIU FANGQIANG, Xinhua correspondent
"The annual summit of the African Union (AU) is taking place from Feb. 12 to 16 at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. The highlight of this year's summit is going to be the election of the senior leadership of the African Union Commission. Delegates from different African countries are gathering here to discuss the critical issues that will shape the future of the continent. Today I'm going to talk to a few delegates to see what they care about the most and what expectations they have from this year's summit."
SOUNDBITE 1 (English): SAMUEL NORGAH, Director of AU Liaison Office of World Vision International
"I think we are looking for two things. First is a commitment to the convention that is supposed to address gender-based violence. The second thing we are looking for is for our heads of state to be able to commit to issues that concern children, particularly investment in children, and making sure we are protecting our children against all forms of violence."
SOUNDBITE 2 (English): EPOSI FRIDA, Delegate from Cameroon
"The two things I hope to see at the end of the summit is, first of all, a free and fair election. Then, of course, some resolutions that would foster peace and security, especially in West Africa. Because I strongly believe that when there is peace and security, then there are possibilities for education to thrive, especially in rural communities, and particularly for women. Because most females are the group that are highly affected by most of these insecurities. So I look forward to resolutions that would promote peace and encourage more education among African communities."
SOUNDBITE 3 (English): ALFONS WITBEEN, Delegate from Namibia
"As you know that African countries, mostly in the western part of Africa, are still struggling with issues of stability. African Union was established with the aim of promoting peace, stability, and economic growth for African countries. So my first take is that the summit will look into the security issues of African countries, and see if we can find lasting solutions."
