Kilauea volcano spews 400ft lava fountain in Hawaii
Kilauea volcano spewed a 400ft (122m) lava fountain in Hawaii.
Dubbed 'Episode 10' of the ongoing Halema'uma'u eruption, the eruoption began at 8:22 pm HST on Wednesday, February 19, releasing molten lava within Halema'uma'u Caldera.
Authorities said it subsided by 9:18 am on Thursday after lasting approximately 13 hours.
Footage from the national park shows the north vent hurling lava into the sky.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that seismic tremors increased as lava flows spread across the crater floor, with molten lava covering 75 per cent of Halema'uma'u's southern expanse within Kaluapele, Kilauea's caldera.
This eruption, which began on December 23 of the previous year, follows a pattern of brief, explosive episodes—each lasting around 13 hours, separated by pauses ranging from one day to nearly two weeks.
Kilauea is the world's most active volcanic mass and is the central feature of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
Its caldera is nearly three miles long and two miles wide, with an area of more than four square miles.
