Stunning timelapse footage shows the Kilauea volcano spitting lava in Hawaii.

The video showing molten rocks spewing out from the crater was captured from the northwest rim of the Halema'uma'u crater on January 4.

Authorities confirmed that the eruption, which began in the early hours of December 23, ceased on Friday, January 3. The remaining lava fountain in the south vent shut down rapidly at around 8:40 pm.

Kilauea is the world's most active volcanic mass and is the central feature of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

Its caldera is nearly three miles long and two miles wide, with an area of more than four square miles.
