Air Indian plane crash wreckage seen in residential area
Footage shows panic at the site of a plane crash in India this afternoon.
The Air India aircraft bound for London is believed to have crashed into a residential area in the Meghani Nagar area of Gujarat. All roads surrounding the site of the suspected impact were closed.
Local media reported that the aircraft was a commercial Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft with up to 242 passengers onboard. Flight AI171 departed at 1:17 pm and was due to land at Gatwick Airport at 6 pm local time.
It crashed shortly after taking off from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. Thick smoke was seen rising from the site of the impact.
Emergency services were dispatched to the area.
