Tourists battered by flash floods on Thai island Koh Tao
Tourists waded though a flash flood that battered the Thai island Koh Tao.
Footage shows holidaymakers stranded in shops as the muddy deluge flowed into the street amid heavy rain in Surat Thani province, Thailand on February 25.
Some of them were forced to walk barefoot to keep their shoes from being submerged in dirty water.
Visitor Kai Tubinshlak said: 'That happened around my hostel in the island of Koh Tao.'
This came after the island where the notorious Full Moon Party is held was battered by flash floods.
Muddy water surging across the streets of Koh Phangan Island experienced continuous rainfall, which has caused floods and landslides in some areas.
Rescue worker Art Surachat said: 'Residents in at-risk areas were notified to evacuate.'
Passakorn Boonyalak, director-general of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, said Surat Thani was among several provinces being battered by the downpours.
The Thai Meteorological Department warned of more heavy rain falling in southern Thailand until February 25. The agency said residents should be careful of flash floods and forest runoff.
Waves in the lower Gulf of Thailand were forecasted to reach up to 10ft high during thunderstorms. Fishermen were urged to refrain from sailing.
Similar floods unfolded on the nearby island of Koh Phangan - also a popular destination for tourists, many of who attend the notorious Full Moon Party.
