PETA storms Oscars party amid anger at burgers on menu
Animal rights activists stormed an Oscars party ot protest over the burgers on the menu.
Supporters of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) interrupted the Vanity Fair event on Sunday, March 2, in Los Angeles, accusing the organisers of harming animals and the planet.
Protesters carried signs reading 'Serving Meat While LA Burns? Go Vegan!' slamming the activity's In-N-Out burger selection.
The demonstration was part of PETA's campaign for a vegan menu, arguing that meat production contributes to the climate crisis and disasters like wildfires.
The massive fires recently affected parts of Los Angeles and nearly disrupted the Academy Awards.
Tracy Reiman, PETA's Executive Vice President, said: 'While Vanity Fair serves In-N-Out to celebrities, the meat industry slaughters billions of animals. It's pushing the planet past its breaking point.'
PETA is calling for Vanity Fair to adopt veganism at future events.
Studies support PETA's claims, noting that the climate crisis has worsened wildfires. Meat, egg, and dairy production contribute significantly to the problem. Methane from cows heats the Earth 80 times more than carbon dioxide.
Animal farming depletes land and uses excessive water, increasing fire risks.
PETA claims that adopting a vegan diet can significantly reduce an individual's carbon footprint, save nearly 200 animals yearly, and lower the risks of heart disease and cancer.
The group offers a free vegan starter kit for those interested in trying it.
PETA, known for its advocacy against animal cruelty, continues to push for stricter enforcement of animal welfare laws and the elimination of animal testing.
