Police probe chilling video of 'cult' marching through street in the Philippines
Police are probing a chilling video of alleged cultists from the U.S. marching through a street in the Philippines.
Authorities were informed about a bizarre group of American and Jamaican foreigners in black shirts walking in a single file outside terrified locals' homes in Cebu.
Footage shows the cult members from the religious group Abayonaym appearing to hold a silent parade along the street of a gated subdivision.
The all-male group, made of dozens, wore all-black clothes and pants, with some of them carrying flags.
However, the scene sparked alarm among residents who immediately called the police.
Minglanilla Police Station Chief Police Major Mark Leanza said: 'The group's leader went to the station last March 5 to inform that the 61 foreigners in the video belong to a religious group called Abayonaym.'
The town police chief added American Derric Curry II claimed to be the group's leader and gave them a list of 61 names to identify the foreigners in the video.
Police were deployed to the area to check and found out some of the American and Jamaican nationals did not live in the district.
However, Minglanilla mayor Rajiv Enad ordered an investigation into the group, which rented 17 houses in the high-end subdivision.
Mayor Rajiv said: 'We received reports it was not the only time that the group held a marching activity. It is alarming for the community so we are probing this with other government agencies.'
Abayonaym is associated with the early Jewish-Christian sect Ebionites.
The Ebionites followed Jewish laws, rejected Paul's teachings, and believed Jesus was the Messiah but not divine.
