A Thai spiritual medium was arrested for allegedly raping a woman he told was his wife in a past life.

Pasriariyamatetrai Satjaputtabaramee, 55, picked up the alleged victim, 21, from her home, telling her superstitious mum - who was one of his followers - that the girl was his former lover in a previous life.

With Thailand being a devout Buddhist country that believes in reincarnation, the eager mother hung on his words and was delighted her daughter seemed to be releated to the spiritual guru.

Pasriariyamatetrai asked to take the woman on a drive 'to jolt her memories' before allegedly taking her to a hotel and molesting her in Nakhon Sawan province, Thailand, on July 25.

The alleged victim's mother said she noticed something wrong when the medium returned her daughter 'frightened and tense' around two hours later.

While bathing the girl, she found bite marks on her chest. She questioned her daughter, who soon broke down and told how she was allegedly raped.

The mum filed a report with the police four months later on November 15. The reason for the delay was not clarified.

Officials obtained a warrant from the Nakhon Sawan Provincial Court and launched a search for Pasriariyamatetrai.

He was tracked down and arrested in a house in the capital Bangkok on January 4.

Authorities said the medium was previously arrested in December for allegedly raping a six-year-old daughter of one of his disciples. He was released on bail before his capture in January.

Police Captain Somwang Itthaprasat of the Nong Bua District Police Station said Pasriariyamatetrai will be charged with 'sexual assault of another person who is unable to protect themselves', 'committing indecent acts against a person over 15 years of age who is unable to protect themselves', and 'taking others for obscene purposes by using violent force.'

Pasriariyamatetrai has denied the charges and declined to comment on the case, saying he would only speak in court.
