German girlfriend asks Asian boyfriend to try bread for breakfast
A German girlfriend asked her Asian boyfriend to try her favourite bread for breakfast in the Philippines.
Melissa Hohlreiter from Saarland, Germany, prepared avocado on toast for her Filipino partner Jeefrance, who is used to eating rice in the morning when the rice cooker at their homestay broke.
Footage shows Melissa having a tropical island-themed meal with her boyfriend of one year.
The two wooden plates had toasted bread with guacamole spread and egg, garnished with tomatoes and flowers.
Melissa said in the video: 'What do you think about your plate without rice?'
Her boyfriend said: 'I think it's not good. No rice, no power.
'I need to eat again later. They have rice there.'
While the meal had fewer calories than the surfer boyfriend wanted, he seemed appreciative of the effort put in by Melissa.
He said: 'Look at this flower.'
The couple took a bite together, and Melissa asked what he thought of the food.
He said: 'No rice. Sweetie pie cooked me this and no rice. So bad. But the thing is, I cannot survive without rice.'
The couple finished their light breakfast, and the boyfriend sang a song for her.
Melissa added: 'In the Philippines, rice is eaten at any time of the day and with every meal.
'For a while, I ate it all the time too, but in general, my favourite breakfast in Germany is avocado toast with egg.'
Asians eat rice for breakfast because it is a staple food that provides energy for the day. Rice is deeply rooted in Asian culinary traditions and is often paired with proteins and vegetables.
Europeans, on the other hand, traditionally consume bread, dairy, and cereals, which are more common in their agricultural and historical food practices.
