Planet of the vapes: Chimpanzee picks up cigarette and smokes like a human, shocking zoo goers in China
Recently, at Nanning Zoo in Guangxi, a visitor captured footage of a gorilla picking up a discarded cigarette butt from the ground and smoking it while sitting in a corner. The gorilla handled the cigarette with remarkable skill, taking a deep puff before exhaling smoke, and even extinguished the cigarette butt properly after finishing—its mannerisms strikingly similar to a human. The unusual sight left onlookers both amused and astonished.
In response, Nanning Zoo staff stated that they were aware of the video and were investigating the incident, checking whether a visitor had deliberately thrown the cigarette butt into the enclosure. They added that any further updates on the matter would need to be confirmed by higher authorities.
The zoo also assured the public that it would strengthen management efforts and raise visitor awareness about animal protection to maintain order within the zoo. Additionally, they urged guests to behave responsibly during their visits and refrain from feeding or throwing objects at animals to prevent potential harm.
This is not the first time this particular gorilla has attracted attention for unusual behaviour. Previously, it made headlines for frequently throwing turf and mud at visitors, earning the nickname "Throwing Ape" among internet users.
