US, Phoenix: Scottsdale Police K9 Shot During Officer Involved Shooting

Phoenix, United States - March 07, 2025 03/07/2025 10:30 pm (GMT-0700) SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – A 42-year-old man is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Scottsdale, Arizona, late Friday evening. Shortly after 10 p.m., Scottsdale police responded to reports of a suspect threatening an individual with a gun in the 400 block of North Scottsdale Road. Upon arrival, officers found that the suspect had fled the scene. While conducting a traffic stop on the suspect’s vehicle, the individual attempted to escape again. Meanwhile, other officers were in contact with the victim when the suspect returned and pulled in directly behind one of the patrol vehicles. Failing to comply with commands, the suspect reached behind him for an object inside the vehicle. A K9 unit was deployed, leading to an officer-involved shooting. One officer discharged his weapon, striking both the suspect and the K9. Police immediately began administering emergency medical aid to the suspect, who succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The K9 was transported to a veterinary hospital and is currently in stable condition. Authorities have indicated that there is no ongoing threat to the community. An investigation into the officer-involved shooting is being conducted by the Mesa Police Department, as part of the East Valley Critical Incident Response Team.
