Sofia, Bulgaria - February 22, 2025 Thousands of people to gather at the square in front of the Bulgarian national bank in Sofia. They express their disagreement with the expected political decision to introduce in Bulgaria the euro currency in various ways. They burned the badges of Brussels officials and the European flag on them, pelted the building that houses the European Commission and the European Parliament with red paint, eggs, and bombs. They carried posters against the euro and in support of the preservation of the Bulgarian national currency. The event was organised by the major pro-Russian political party in the Bulgarian parliament, “Vazrajdane” witch prepared for months that National protest against the introduction of euro currency. The government is planing to introduce the common EU money, and use the euro from Jan 2026, but the political decision will be taken the upcoming week in negotiations between Government in Sofia and the commission in Brussels.
