A fire engulfed a shopping centre in Russia near the border with Ukraine.

Dramatic footage shows the blaze at the Gallery Astor mall in Rostov-on-Don in the early hours of Monday, March 24.

Sirens can be heard in the background as the roof of the building burns, with flames and a plume of grey and black smoke rising into the air.

Strong winds caused the fire to spread to the roof of a neighbouring building, and an area of 800 square metres was burnt down.

A number of residents were evacuated, with no injuries reported.

Reports said that by 8 am on Monday, the flames had been brought under control and extinguished.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire as firefighters continue to work at the scene, with 100 personnel and 29 units of equipment deployed.
