A survivor trapped for nearly 40 hours under the rubble of a collapsed hospital building in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar's capital, was pulled out by Chinese rescuers early Sunday local time. The elderly survivor was among multiple people buried under the rubble of the three-storey building of the Ottara Thiri Hospital seriously damaged by Friday's 7.7-magnitude earthquake, with the first floor completely collapsed. The survivor has been taken to hospital for medical treatment. The elderly survivor was the first survivors saved by rescuers of a 37-member search and rescue team from Yunnan, a southwestern Chinese province bordering Myanmar, after it arrived in the Southeast Asian country on Saturday morning 18 hours after the quake struck. It is the officially organized Chinese rescue team and the first international rescue team to reach Myanmar. On Sunday, Myanmar's State Administration Council Chairman, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, visited the hospital and extended his appreciation to members of the Chinese team for their timely assistance. The earthquake, which struck central Myanmar at around 12:50 local time (06:20 GMT) on Friday, has left at least 1,700 people dead, 3,400 injured, and 300 missing, according to Myanmar's State Administration Council. Authorities fear that the death toll may rise as search and rescue efforts continue. The video shows: 1. Various of severely damaged Ottara Thiri Hospital 2.
