Cars submerged in floodwater as storm hits Donna, Texas
Cars were submerged in floodwater as a powerful storm hit Donna, Texas.
Authorities reported that the thunderstorm in the southern region began on Wednesday, followed by heavy downpours on Thursday afternoon and evening, continuing until Friday, March 28.
Dramatic footage shows a red car nearly falling into the floodwater, with other vehicles already partially submerged.
The Texas Department of Transportation issued a traffic alert for the Donna-Weslaco region, as flooding caused delays and safety concerns for drivers.
Dozens of water rescues were also conducted due to the flash flooding.
At least three people have been confirmed dead following the freak weather. Officials said the deaths occurred in Hidalgo County.
The National Weather Service reported that the region received between 6 and 12 inches of rain, with some areas receiving more. McAllen recorded over 6 inches, while more than 14 inches were registered at the Valley International Airport in Harlingen.
