Bosnia and Herzegovina: EU won't tolerate threats to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s security: Foreign policy chief
SARAJEVO, BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA - APRIL 8, 2025: The EU foreign policy chief said on Tuesday the bloc will not tolerate threats to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s sovereignty and territorial integrity amid separatist acts by the Bosnian Serb leadership. “Any attempts to break up the country are unacceptable,” Kaja Kallas told a news conference in Sarajevo. “Republika Srpska leadership is undermining the country's constitutional and legal order, threatening the fundamental freedom of all citizens,” Kallas added, referring to the Serbian entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Kallas added that EUFOR-Althea in Sarajevo, the international peace mission, has been supporting security in Bosnia and Herzegovina. EU’s decision in March to increase the number of EUFOR Althea troops by hundreds gives “the clear message that the EU remains firmly committed to stability of this region and the security of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” she added. Kallas underlined the importance of political leaders working together to address challenges but cautioned that "inflammatory rhetoric and divisive actions are dangerous" and go against the commitments the Balkan country has made on its path towards EU membership. The people of Bosnia and Herzegovina deserve nothing less than stability and prosperity, said Kallas, adding that the bloc will remain the most stable, reliable, and predictable partner for the country. Progress on the EU path is the strongest guarantee of prosperity and stability for Bosnia and Herzegovina, she added.
