PENNSYLVANIA GOVERNOR, JOSH SHAPIRO SPEAKING HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA, US - APRIL 13: A suspected arson attack early Sunday morning caused significant damage to the Pennsylvania Governor's Residence in Harrisburg. Governor Josh Shapiro held a press conference later in the day to address the incident and reassure the public. At approximately 2:00 a.m., the Harrisburg Fire Department responded to a fire at the Governor's Residence, located on North Front Street in Harrisburg City, Dauphin County. Crews quickly contained and extinguished the fire, which damaged a portion of the historic residence. Governor Shapiro and his family were in the building at the time. Shapiro and his family safely evacuated and were not injured. While the investigation remains ongoing, Pennsylvania State Police have confirmed that the fire was intentionally set. A suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the attack. “This was a targeted and deliberate act,” Governor Shapiro said during the press conference. “We are thankful for the swift response from our first responders, and I am especially grateful that my family and I are safe. We will not be intimidated.” Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s identity or a possible motive. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
