Lebanon: Israel carries out series of airstrikes on southern Lebanon despite ceasefire
NABATIEH, LEBANON - MARCH 28, 2025: Israel carried out a series of airstrikes on southern Lebanon on Friday, March 28, despite the ongoing ceasefire agreement. Israeli fighter jets targeted several areas in the southern Lebanese cities of Nabatieh and Tyre, according to the eyewitnesses. In a statement, the Lebanese Ministry of Health confirmed that one person was killed and eight others, including three children, were injured in an Israeli airstrike on the town of Kafr Tebnit in the Nabatieh district. Israeli fighter jets have continued their intense flights over southern Lebanon in the aftermath of the attack. Earlier in the day, the Israeli army claimed that two rockets were fired from Lebanon toward Israel and said: “One was intercepted, while the other landed in Lebanese territory.” However, the Lebanese group Hezbollah once again denied responsibility for launching the rockets, asserting its commitment to the ceasefire agreement. The Lebanese news agency NNA also reported continued Israeli military aggression in Lebanon's southern towns. A fragile ceasefire had been in place in Lebanon since November, ending months of cross-border warfare between Israel and Hezbollah, which escalated into a full-scale conflict in September. Lebanese authorities reported over 1,250 Israeli violations of the ceasefire, including at least 100 fatalities and more than 330 injuries. Under the ceasefire deal, Israel was supposed to fully withdraw from southern Lebanon by Jan. 26, but the deadline was extended to Feb. 18 after it refused to comply. It still maintains a military presence at five border outposts.
