China: China Int'l Consumer Products Expo offers glimpse into future of tech-enabled elderly care
Storyline: China Int'l Consumer Products Expo offers glimpse into future of tech-enabled elderly care [Voice_over] This is a robotic exoskeleton - a wearable device designed to amplify both human strength and endurance. While its own weight is only 5.5 kilograms, it can assist with lifting heavy objects, providing support of up to 30 kilograms. But its significance goes beyond that. Data shows that by the end of 2024, China's population aged 60 and above has surpassed 310 million, accounting for over 22 percent of the total population. How to ensure the well-being and security of China's growing elderly population has become a critical focus. [Sound_bite] Xu Zhenhua, CEO and Co-founder, ULS Robotics: "The electric waist-assist exoskeleton I brought is already being used in the elderly care industry. First, it is mainly used by caregivers in nursing homes. With this exoskeleton, they can work more easily and with less effort. Secondly, it is also used for the elderly themselves. We use the robotic exoskeleton to help them with walking exercises and joint training, improving their overall physical condition." [Voice_over] And it's not only providing support to the body. Simple, but indispensable services for the elderly are also crucial. In an aging society, assistance on a daily basis, such as delivering food, medicines, or simply lending a helping hand, can make a significant difference. [Sound_bite] Chen Qian, Market Director, Keenon Robotics: "We had cooperated with the biggest retirement home called SGP in Canada. Actually, that's our partner. And they have using this one for their restaurants to deliver food for the elder. Looking after people is one of the key missions for robots. That's definitely where we gonna go." [Stand_up] Wang Naiqian, Reporter: "From robotic exoskeletons to service robots, we're seeing how technology is empowering the elderly, ensuring they not only live longer but also live better lives. It heralds a promising future for China's aging population, where dignity and autonomy will be within reach for everyone." [Restrictions : No access Chinese mainland]
