"What exciting developments are going on in the robotics industry? What lies on the horizon? Join me as I engage in conversations with industry insiders to venture into the world of robotics and unlock its endless possibilities. This is Sunny's Spotlight from the 2023 World Robot Conference (WRC)."

STANDUP 2 (English): SUNNY ZHOU, Xinhua correspondent
"The week-long WRC 2023 wrapped up Tuesday in Beijing. Top scientists, entrepreneurs, and industry celebrities have been invited as guest speakers, sharing groundbreaking R&D achievements and sparking inspiration among the attendees. China holds great significance in the field of robotics and intelligent manufacturing. As global industry insiders gather here for the event, we have a great opportunity to gain their valuable insights into the development of the industry and prospects for international cooperation."

STANDUP 3 (English): SUNNY ZHOU, Xinhua correspondent
"I wonder what eventually brought you here at this year's World Robot Conference. What makes this edition special for you?"

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): WOLFRAM BURGARD, Professor of robotics and artificial intelligence, University of Technology Nuremberg
"It's actually seeing the progress that has happened here in China."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): ZVI SHILLER, President, Israeli Robotics Association
"I am very impressed with the extra, with the level of advancement that I see there, the volume. I'm very interested in consumer robotics, robots that come into the home and do simple tasks, which I strongly believe is going to be the future."

SOUNDBITE 3 (English): KAZUHIRO KOSUGE, Chair professor of robotic systems, University of Hong Kong
"I would like to know about the advancement of China, robotics in China, and it's amazingly advancing. Every year, everything is changing. This year, I'm impressed by the advancement of medical robots."

SOUNDBITE 4 (English): MASSIMILIANO ZECCA, Professor of healthcare technology, Loughborough University
"Now you can see them as actual products. This shifts from a theoretical concept, from a lab-proof of concept, to lab them straightly into something that you can pretty much go and buy and use. Like the hand exercise of training robots made with soft robotics, which was very nice to see."

SOUNDBITE 5 (English): CHEE-FAI TAN, President, ASEAN Smart Industry Confederation
"There are many good applications for the Chinese robot companies to implement, the ideas and products in the industry. You can see that the application robots are not only on the cloud, as well as able to use on the ground, in the sea, sky, as well as space. I think it almost covers every industry."

STANDUP 4 (English): SUNNY ZHOU, Xinhua correspondent
"China has attached great importance to the development of the robotics industry. Cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Qingdao, and so on, have developed their own robotics (technology) clusters. So how do you perceive the potential and development of the robotics industry in China?"

SOUNDBITE 6 (English): WOLFRAM BURGARD, Professor of robotics and artificial intelligence, University of Technology Nuremberg
"I think having developed these clusters is a very good step, and a very important step. I've been pretty much impressed by various applications that you can see and the progress that has been made by companies and the products that they developed. Given what I've seen, it will be like there are amazing opportunities. And I hope that I will be in contact with some of the companies, and hope that I can contribute to their developments as well."

SOUNDBITE 7 (English): ZVI SHILLER, President, Israeli Robotics Association
"For example, Israel does have the innovation and it can design products, (but) it doesn't have the manufacturing capabilities. So cooperation is a must. China alone has a big market here. I see the progress, it's very positive and promising."

SOUNDBITE 8 (English): KAZUHIRO KOSUGE, Chair professor of robotic systems, University of Hong Kong
"China, this country is very good for, and has a very nice environment for the development of new robots. There are a lot of opportunities to develop new robots and bring them into the application."

SOUNDBITE 9 (English): MASSIMILIANO ZECCA, Professor, Loughborough University
"Having this opportunity to come to China to see the latest development of Chinese robotics was definitely unmissable. I like the fact that Chinese robots are not just industrial robots. This is very nice. And they appreciate it a lot in the exhibition halls. The explosion will come from the other markets and I like that China is investing a lot in all these other activities as well.

SOUNDBITE 10 (English): CHEE-FAI TAN, President, ASEAN Smart Industry Confederation
"I think that the Chinese government did a great job, as well as the private enterprises in China. They all have very good policies and initiatives to support the robotics industry. I think the robotics industry in China is moving on the right track. I would like to promote the close cooperation between China and ASEAN countries."
