Storylin: Used new-energy vehicle sales pick up pace in China [Voice_over] Second-hand new energy vehicles have become the fastest-growing segment in China's used car market this year. Data from the China Automobile Dealers Association shows that more than 98,000 used NEVs were sold nationwide during the month of February, a year-on-year increase of about 52 percent. At one automobile trading center in the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou, used NEVs take center stage, with most sporting sales tags for half the price of new vehicles. [Sound_bite] Mr. Fang, Consumer: "I want to buy a car priced at about 13,700 U.S. dollars for home use. New energy cars are more budget-friendly, as the overall cost goes down." [Sound_bite] Mr. Peng, Consumer: "My car is too old and has high mileage, so I want to replace it with a new model. I'm choosing a used car because it’s much cheaper." [Voice_over] A used car dealer in the city says booming sales for new NEVs are boosting trade-ins of used cars. [Sound_bite] Xue Zonglin, used car dealer: "We began to sell secondhand new energy cars in 2020. As there were few brands and categories at that time, we could only sell a few units in a month. After five years of development, our monthly sales of used NEVs could reach 40 to 50 units." [Voice_over] The China Automobile Dealers Association predicts that secondhand NEV sales will increase by at least 30 percent this year.
