The Self-Determination Movement (Vetevendosje), which holds the most seats, re-nominated former Justice Minister Albulena Haxhiu for the role. Haxhiu received 57 votes—four short of the 61 needed for a majority in the 120-seat legislature. The General Assembly session, which resumed today after five previous postponements since April 15, was once again adjourned by the acting speaker. A new session is scheduled for Apr. 27. Leaders from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) had previously indicated a willingness to support an alternative candidate if Vetevendosje chose someone other than Haxhiu. Parliament must first elect its speaker and deputies before the process of forming a new government can begin. A prime ministerial candidate must then secure at least 61 votes to win a vote of confidence.
