This is the shocking moment a car overtaking a bus struck a road worker carrying buckets of paint.

CCTV footage shows the municipal worker walking across Liteiny Bridge in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

He can be seen carrying two containers while crossing the highway with a colleague on May 10.

Moments later, the sedan swerved into another lane from behind the stationary coach and ploughed into the employee.

The white paint inside the pails splashed across the tarmac on impact, while the victim was violently thrown to the ground.

The suspected driver stopped immediately and remained at the scene as nearby residents rushed to assist the injured man.

The car involved reportedly belonged to a car-sharing service.

Local media said the victim sustained injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Russia's Investigative Committee has launched a case and is reviewing traffic camera footage from the area.
