The Chinese government's health and epidemic prevention team to Myanmar completed its one-month post-disaster epidemic prevention mission in earthquake-stricken Mandalay and departed for China on Sunday. During its mission in Myanmar, the team carried out various tasks to comprehensively improve post-disaster public health and safety, supporting the country's goal of preventing major epidemics following a major disaster. Specifically, the team members completed five rounds of visits to four key resettlement sites in Mandalay, carrying out on-site investigations, vector surveillance, environmental disinfection, sample testing, vaccination guidance, health education, and psychological support. They also conducted post-disaster epidemic prevention training for local public health professionals, accumulatively training 105 people. "We conducted on-site investigations at the water supply plant, disease control centers, and medical institutions in Mandalay. Based on our findings, we assisted the Myanmar side in developing 13 technical manuals on post-disaster health and epidemic prevention, providing long-term technical support. Before departing Mandalay, our epidemic prevention unit donated all remaining consumables, reagents, disinfection materials, and medical equipment to the Public Health Department of Mandalay Region," said Chen Lei, deputy director of the National Disease Control and Prevention Administration's emergency response department and leader of the team. A 7.9-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar on March 28, resulting in significant casualties and a severe public health crisis. In response to a request from the Myanmar side, the Chinese government provided additional emergency humanitarian aid. On April 19, a 50-member Chinese health and epidemic prevention team organized by the National Disease Control and Prevention Administration departed for Myanmar to support post-disaster relief efforts.
