Hollywood on Sea, Mega homes sprout in the seaside village of Mawgan Porth, Cornwall, UK

The once sleepy seaside village of Mawgan Porth, twixt Newquay and Padstow, a minor holiday destination perched in a gap between dramatic cliffs on the North Cornish Coast, has undergone an unusual remake in the last few years. Re-labelled Hollywood on Sea by the popular press. It now attracts a somewhat glossier clientele. As an example a somewhat square-looking eyrie is currently being built for two-time Oscar winner Cate Blanchett, her new home directly abutting an even grander residence owned by the Innocent smoothie founders Richard Reed and Andrew Balom. a handy arrangement if Cate ever needs to pop around to borrow a cup of sugar. Although Stanley Tucci, Jason Statham, and Brooklyn Beckham are reported to have been seen in the village, claims that they own property here are unproven. Chris Martin of Coldplay, along with James Norton have both had tuition in surfing here, reports Pete Abell, a surf coach. James Norton filmed the recent ITV series "Playing Nice" set in a fictional family beachside home, now available as an upmarket Mawgan Porth Holiday let. As the 1930's retirement bungalows come on the market, they are invariably snatched up at eye-watering prices and promptly demolished for replacement with California style statement residences. Cornwall already has long established enclaves for the super wealthy, locations such as Rock near Padstow and St Mawes on the South coast, why this indisputably beautiful but indisputably rugged and winter gale swept location has took off in this direction is somewhat puzzling to the dwindling band of regular residents, perhaps concerns are assuaged, when the estate agent calls.
