This is the terrifying moment a groom's face was engulfed in flames when a wedding cake exploded.

Footage shows the newlyweds posing with their families on stage while holding their wedding cakes in Kampong Chhnang, Cambodia.

Moments later, the host asked them to blow out the candles on May 13.

As the couple leaned forward, a relative sprayed confetti near the groom's face, unintentionally triggering a flash fire.

He quickly turned his head as his friends rushed in to help extinguish the flames. The impact caused him to briefly lose his balance.

The filmer said that the groom did not suffer any burns from the incident, and the celebration continued shortly after.

The fire was caused by a dangerous mix of an open flame and flammable aerosol gases. As the pressurised spray can released a mist of propellant into the air it instantly ignited and caused a sudden burst of fire.
