JORDANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER AIMAN AL-SAFADI SPEAKING AT PRESS CONFERENCE WITH HIS SYRIAN COUNTERPART ASSAD HASSAN SHAIBANI (Arabic)DAMASCUS, SYRIA - MAY 20: Syria and Jordan signed an agreement to establish a High Coordination Council to strengthen their joint efforts. Foreign Minister Assad Hassan Shaibani and his Jordanian counterpart Aiman al-Safadi met in the capital Damascus. Following the meeting, the two ministers held a joint press conference at Tishrin Palace. Jordanian Foreign Minister Safadi said Jordan is determined to strengthen its brotherly ties with Syria through comprehensive co-operation, adding that the two countries have agreed on a road map to activate co-operation in the fields of energy, transport and health. ‘Anything that threatens Syria's security and stability also threatens Jordan's security and stability. We are trying to strengthen cooperation in the fight against common threats,’ Safadi said underlining that Jordan will support Damascus until a stable and secure Syria is built. Minister Safadi emphasized that they stand by Syria against the Israeli aggression and said: ‘The Israeli aggression against the south of Syria is an aggression against Jordan. For Syria to stabilize, all external interventions must end. Israel must respect Syria's sovereignty and withdraw from the Syrian territories it occupies.’ Safadi also stated that lifting the sanctions will contribute to the reconstruction of Syria.
