Firefighting planes battled a massive wildfire spreading in Siberia.

Crews from the Russian Emergency Ministry are working to stop the flames from engulfing five villages.

Authorities confirmed that the localities of Doroninskoye, Novotroitsk, Domna, Verkh-Usugli, and Ilinka remain at risk as the fire continues to advance.

More than 150 specialists and at least 35 units of equipment, including a Be-200 aircraft and a Mi-8 helicopter, have been deployed to the scene.

The crisis is part of a wider wildfire outbreak in the region. As of May 20, reports indicate that 49 wildfires are burning across more than 672,261 hectares in Zabaykalsky Krai.

Dry and windy conditions have hampered efforts to contain the blazes, which continue to challenge firefighters on the ground.
