A photographer had a close call when a rally driver lost control and crashed into a tree, missing him by inches.

Rally driver Michael Boyle and his co-driver Dermot McCafferty lost control while approaching a sharp left-hand bend during the Cavan Rally in Ireland on Sunday (May 25).

Spectators watched in shock as the car left the road, struck a tree, narrowly missed a photographer and violently swung around before coming to rest beside a field.

Mark Learmont, 57, who captured the incident on video, said: "Marshals were immediately on the scene and confirmed that although shaken the occupants were OK."
