A rally car driver says he is ‘thanking his lucky stars' after he is left unscathed following a dramatic 100mph crash.

Maxx Bradshaw, 23, was racing in the Chris Kelly Memorial Rally race on the Isle of Man on Saturday October 4 when he and his co-driver, Stephen Christian, 45, swerved off the road.

The drivers faced wet and slippery roads following Storm Amy's torrential rain and gale-force winds the day prior.

Maxx, of Sartfelt Jumps, Isle of Man, was speeding at around 100mph as he went over a jump before his red Mitsubishi Evo IX unexpectedly twisted mid-air causing him to lose control when he landed.

Terrifying onboard footage shows the car violently barrel role twice before coming to a stop - luckily both Maxx and Stephen were left uninjured.

Maxx said: "Luckily, me and Stephen came out with just a few bruises and were able to walk away from the massive accident."

"I have been thanking my lucky stars as it could have been a lot worse."

"After a really hard push through Druidale on special stage one, I was feeling confident in the car so I decided to carry on the push to the end over the faster part of the stage."

"On the second jump of the Sartfell Road, the car took off and twisted mid-air which sent it sliding."

"After around 200 metres of fighting with the steering wheel, the car flew off the side of the road and barrel-rolled twice at well over 100mph."

"We were lucky as well as we were thinking the damage would have been a lot worse than it was too after coming off the course the way we did."

Maxx also thanks to those who had checked in following the crash, saying the pair will rebuild and reassess in the coming months.

The young driver was later pictured embracing his dad Scotty after what could have been a far worse outcome.

The rally itself was dominated by Irish crews, with Donegal's Niall McGonigle and Caolan McKenna taking victory in their Ford Fiesta Rally2.
