VARIOUS OF MEHTER BAND (OTTOMAN MILITARY BAND) MEMBERS LEAVING ISTANBUL, TÜRKİYE - JUNE 3: The Mehter Band, the historic Ottoman Janissary band, has launched its summer performances at Dolmabahce Palace, organized by the Presidency of National Palaces. The first show took place on Tuesday, June 3, in front of the palace’s Treasury Gate, drawing enthusiastic crowds of domestic and foreign tourists. Performed by the Mehter Band of the Ministry of National Defense, the musicians showcased traditional Ottoman military music in authentic costumes, playing historic instruments that reflect the empire’s rich musical heritage. Dating back to the 11th century, the Mehter Band once served as a morale booster for Ottoman troops and symbolized the empire’s military triumphs. Today, it remains a celebrated cultural legacy, evoking pride and historical remembrance. Throughout the summer, the band will perform at three historic palaces in Istanbul: Dolmabahce Palace (Treasury Gate) on Tuesdays, Topkapı Palace (Babüssaade entrance) on Wednesdays, Yildiz Palace (1st courtyard) on Thursdays. All performances begin at 11:00 AM and are open to the public.
