Fairfield, United States - June 03, 2025 A large grass fire burned more than 60 acres in the Vista Grande area of Fairfield Monday afternoon, prompting mandatory evacuations that were later lifted by early evening. The fire spread near Capitola Way, north of Waterman Boulevard, but firefighters successfully stopped its forward progress before it could cause injuries or property damage. Fairfield police described the fire as a “significant threat to life and property.” Evacuation orders had been issued for several neighborhoods including Palmer Circle, Bear Creek Drive, Cherry Valley Circle, Longview Drive, Skyview Circle, and Shelter Hill Drive. Cal Fire and local crews fought the blaze from the ground while airtankers dropped red fire retardant on homes and streets. The massive drops covered rooftops, cars, and yards with a pinkish-red coating as winds pushed the fire toward residential areas. Resident Allan Perez recalled seeing the red liquid pour over his neighborhood as he packed to evacuate. Another longtime resident, Aaron Barrett, said he preferred having a “pink house than a burned-down house” and praised the fire crews’ quick response. Meanwhile, firefighters also battled a smaller grass fire southeast of Vista Grande near East Travis Boulevard and Sunset Avenue. The cause of both fires remains unknown. All evacuation orders have been lifted as crews continue to monitor the area.
