The Kanlaon Volcano spewed a grey ash column into the sky in the Philippines.

Time-lapse footage captured the powerful burst that sent a 4,000 ft (1,200 metre) cloud over homes on Negros Island, on June 2.

State seismological agency PHIVOLCS said the ash emission lasted for 29 minutes, with the plume drifting west of the volcano crater.

Kanlaon had triggered evacuations when it spewed molten material early morning on May 13. Heavy rains then caused lahar flows to slide into nearby towns on May 23.

Kanlaon is one of the country's most active volcanoes and is currently under Alert Level 3, indicating 'increased chances for sudden and even stronger explosive eruptions'.

The Philippines, an archipelago of over 7,000 islands, lies within the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region known for frequent volcanic eruptions and earthquakes.
