"I lost my arms, my leg, and my dreams": 15-year-old Gazan boy pleads for help after Israeli strike
SHOTLIST: GAZA, PALESTINE (JUNE 4, 2025) (ANADOLU - ACCESS ALL) 1. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) 15-YEAR-OLD PALESTINIAN TEEN WHO LOST LIMBS, ABDULKAREEM ABU AMSHA, SAYING: “My name is Abdulkarim. I’m 15 years old. It happened at exactly 2:30 a.m. We were sleeping peacefully—nothing seemed wrong. Suddenly, we heard shouting. It was terrifying. The noise was deafening. I was lying between my mother and father. Then I woke up to a massive explosion. I fell to the ground. A second strike followed. Two missiles had hit our building. My father and siblings were martyred. So were my aunt, her children, my uncle, his wife, and his sons—everyone in the building was killed. Only two of us survived. I thank God I’m still alive. May God have mercy on their souls. I want a prosthetic. I want to live my life like any other child. I want my rights like any other child. I want to go abroad for treatment. I’ve been here for a year. I lost my arms, my leg—and my dreams. I want to walk again. I want to play like the other children. But I can’t.” Every day, our life in Gaza is about hunger, thirst, bombs, and fear. I just want the war to end." 2. ABU AMSHA LYING ON BED, ARMS AND ONE LEG AMPUTATED 3. CLOSE SHOT OF AMPUTATED LEG 4. VARIOUS OF ABU AMSHA LOOKING AT HIS OLD PHOTOS 5. VARIOUS OF ABU AMSHA LYING ON BEDGAZA, PALESTINE - JUNE 4, 2025: A 15-year-old Palestinian boy, Abdulkareem Abu Amsha, lost both arms and one leg in an Israeli airstrike that also claimed the lives of several of his family members in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli military continues to target and maim children and teenagers in its ongoing assault on the besieged enclave, leaving many with life-altering injuries. Speaking from his hospital bed, Abdulkareem described the daily horrors faced by children in Gaza saying We live with hunger, thirst, bombing, and displacement every day. “I want a prosthetic. I want to live my life like any other child. I want my rights like any other child,” he added. Palestinian children and teens are increasingly deprived of even their most basic rights — to life, safety, and dignity — as they endure relentless bombardment, growing hunger, disease, and forced displacement. The Israeli army, rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, has pursued a brutal offensive against Gaza since October 2023, killing more than 54,600 Palestinians, most of them women and children. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war crimes against civilians in the enclave. Writing by Ayse Elif Erdis.
