Pilgrims stood in prayer on the plain of Arafat, one of the most important rites of Hajj, before traveling by bus to Muzdalifah, where they collected pebbles for the ritual stoning of the devil. Starting at midnight, pilgrims walked approximately 3.5 kilometers in groups to the Jamarat area, where they threw seven pebbles at the "Great Devil." Following the stoning ritual, many pilgrims continued on foot to the Kaaba in Mecca, where they performed the Tawaf and Sa’i. After shaving or trimming their hair, they exited the state of Ihram. Having completed all the major rites of Hajj, the pilgrims have now officially earned the title of "Hajji." The Hajj pilgrimage is the fifth pillar of the Islamic faith which must be performed by all Muslims if financially viable at least once in their lives.
