Los Angeles, United States - June 08, 2025 On May 8th, a video posted by user FSkindness captured a police car on fire during protests against ICE operations. The clip also shows another vehicle exploding near E Arcadia St and Los Angeles St. Thousands of protesters took to the streets Sunday to voice their anger over President Trump’s deployment of the National Guard. Protesters blocked a major freeway and set self-driving cars on fire as law enforcement responded with tear gas, rubber bullets, and flash-bangs. California Governor Gavin Newsom condemned the deployment, calling it illegal and immoral. He announced plans to sue the Trump administration for federalizing the National Guard without consultation. By Monday midday, 53 arrests had been made across several agencies including LAPD, California Highway Patrol, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Charges ranged from failure to disperse to looting and arson. Police Chief Jim McDonnell emphasized that local officers do not engage in federal immigration enforcement due to the California Values Act, a sanctuary city law. Despite many protesters leaving as night fell, some remained and threw objects including rocks and fireworks at officers stationed on the closed 101 Freeway.
