VARIOUS OF PROTESTORS GATHERED CHANTING WHILE SOME HOLDING FLAGS AND SOME HOLDING BANNERSBEERSHEBA, ISRAEL - JUNE 12, 2025: Thousands of protesters rallied outside a courthouse in Beersheba, a city 42 kilometers (26 miles) from the strip, on Thursday, June 12, to oppose the Israeli government’s plan to demolish Bedouin villages in the Negev Desert. The government cites construction "without permits" for the demolitions. However, demonstrators, including Bedouin residents and their supporters, denounced the decision as unjust, arguing it threatens the livelihoods and cultural heritage of these communities. In May alone, Israeli soldiers and settlers carried out 1,691 attacks on Palestinians and their property in the West Bank, with 415 of them attributed to illegal settlers, according to the Palestinian government’s Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission. Since the start of Israel’s assault on Gaza on Oct. 7, 2023, at least 973 Palestinians have been killed and more than 7,000 injured in the West Bank by Israeli forces and settlers, the Palestinian Health Ministry said. In a landmark opinion last July, the International Court of Justice declared Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory illegal and called for the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
