The reason we came here is that it has a roof, which allows us to protect the children from the winter weather. As winter approaches, we are grateful for this shelter. [...] Today, we are suffering and have been deprived of everything, all the basic necessities of life. We have been deprived of worship, cleanliness, dignity, and everything else." 3. CHILDREN SHELTERING INSIDE MOSQUE (TWO SHOTS) 4. PEOPLE AROUND DESTRUCTED MOSQUE (TWO SHOTS) GAZA, PALESTINE - OCTOBER 18, 2025: Gaza City’s Shafi Mosque, heavily damaged in Israeli attacks, is now providing shelter to displaced Palestinian families as winter approaches. Cemil Abdurrahim Dellul, who has taken refuge in the mosque with his six children, said, “The reason we came here is that it has a roof, which allows us to protect the children from the winter weather. As winter approaches, we are grateful for this shelter.” Dellul and his family cleared debris from the mosque’s floor to make it habitable with limited resources. He added, “Today, we are suffering and have been deprived of everything, all the basic necessities of life. We have been deprived of worship, cleanliness, dignity, and everything else.” Like thousands of others in Gaza, Dellul’s four-story home was completely destroyed in the attacks, forcing his family to survive under harsh conditions. The Gaza ceasefire deal was reached between Israel and Hamas last week, based on a plan presented by US President Donald Trump. Phase one included the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. The plan also envisages the rebuilding of Gaza and the establishment of a new governing mechanism without Hamas. Since October 2023, Israeli attacks have killed nearly 68,000 Palestinians in Gaza, most of them women and children, and rendered it largely uninhabitable.
