A British man was questioned by police over a brutal pit bull attack that killed a beloved family dog in Thailand.

The expat was said to have unleashed the demon hounds just as a Thai-Labrador mix named Gogo was returning home in Chonburi on May 18.

The vicious pair immediately set upon the 12-year-old canine, savagely ripping him apart in front of his horrified owner Chaem, 60.

Hearbreaking footage shows the pit bulls gnawing on Gogo's limp body while the British man made no move to stop them. He reportedly rounded up the two beasts before sauntering back to his home.

Chaem reported the incident to police, who have ordered the Brit to remove his dogs from the housing estate.

Police Colonel Nattapon Phongsuksakul, superintendent of the Nong Prue Police Station, said: 'Both the Thai resident and the foreign owner of the pit bull were summoned to the station for a discussion on May 19. The foreigner admitted fault and agreed to remove the pit bull from his home.

'Both parties agreed to negotiate a settlement. If a successful settlement is reached, the civil case will be concluded. However, the criminal case will still proceed. Under criminal law, the foreigner will face charges of property damage and violating the Animal Cruelty Prevention and Welfare Act.'

Heartbroken Chaem said Gogo had escaped from a gap in the gate. She claimed the British man let loose his dogs on purpose, just as Gogo was returning home.

She said: 'While Gogo was running back to me, the drunk foreign man let out his two pit bulls from the house. Both of them ran toward Gogo and bit him.

'The foreigner just stood there watching my dog get bitten, even laughing at me like a psychopath and didn't try to stop his dogs.

'He even made a throat-slitting gesture at me, threatening me. He then petted his dogs and went back inside his house to sleep comfortably. The police and security guards of the housing estate went to his house and saw him lying down and mocking us in his room.'

Residents claimed the British man frequently caused trouble in the community, where he often argued with security guards and set off fireworks in drunken rampages.

The Brit has reportedly agreed to remove the pit bulls by May 2021.

Thailand is notoriously unregulated over pets and there are no laws preventing people from keeping dangerous dogs. Despite numerous fatal pit bull attacks reported in the news, stubborn locals continue to keep the rabid animals as companions.
