Villagers recycle used oyster shells to create adorable plant pots in Thailand.

Locals had the idea to make use of non-biodegradable food waste piling up in rubbish dumps.

Residents grind up the leftover shells into dust and tiny fragments, then mix them with lime or plaster to be moulded into tiny pots that can hold succulents or small desk plants.

The oyster shells give the plant containers an attractive speckled appearance.

The project has allowed villagers to reduce waste while also supplementing their income from oyster farming.

Aranya Rodsabai started in the initiative in the village of Khao Sam Muk in Chonburi province.

She said: 'After consuming what's inside the oyster, the shell is left behind. I live here and I was looking for ways to reduce the pollution in our community.'

'We are open to teaching anyone how to recycle these seashells from start to finish. We earn from a few hundred to thousands of baht. If only we could produce plaster on our own, there wouldn't be any funds needed.

'Not all of the waste is getting recycled but something is better than nothing.'
