Recycled plastic bottles used for fences, floors and walls at Buddhist temple
Buddhist monks made an awesome temple using recycled plastic bottles.
The religious devotees used waste left behind by garbage collectors in Suphaburi, Thailand.
A monk said the eco-friendly initiative started when he noticed the colourful containers being left behind by the garbage disposal workers, who said they were cheaper compared to clear bottles.
The temple at the Suan Phai Dharma Practice Centre then began to collect the items, amassing up to 83kg to use as construction materials.
They made multi-coloured buildings, including a stupa, a pavilion, an ordination hall, and even living quarters for monks on temple grounds.
The walls and roofs were made with bottles threaded and glued together to form rafts, while the floors were built using gravel-filled bottles. Even the pretty decorations of plastic flowers and chimes were made from recycled materials.
The monks said their next project was to create a massive 30ft Buddha statue using plastic bottles.
