While operating my vehicle and proceeding through an intersection, I was involved in a collision. Two vehicles ahead braked suddenly, necessitating a corresponding deceleration on my part. However, a scooter rider failed to brake adequately, resulting in a rear-end collision with my vehicle. Upon inspection, the damage sustained was minor, limited to a small dent and paint scratch on my rear bumper. While I anticipated a standard exchange of driver and insurance information, the scooter operator, an unlicensed tourist visiting Australia on a rental scooter, proved uncooperative, refusing to provide details beyond his international passport. Following a 30-minute wait for law enforcement, the operator attempted to settle the matter with an unsolicited cash payment of $500 AUD. I declined this offer, explaining the likely higher repair costs and the necessity of a formal process. I further cautioned him against leaving the scene, emphasizing the legal ramifications of doing so. Subsequently, I commenced recording video as he prepared to depart. The arrival of tow trucks and law enforcement concluded the incident.
