Doorbell camera captures dad’s adorable Pride Month chat with young son
A family's doorbell security camera captured the sweet moment a dad explained the importance of Pride to his three-year-old son.
Michael Liquete, 44, recorded the touching moment his husband Chad Whistle, 39, explained to their son why they were hanging a rainbow flag outside for Pride Month.
The couple's son can be heard asking Chad why he had bought a rainbow flag.
While tying the flag to their porch, Chad gently explains that it's a decoration for this month which is "all about love and rainbows and being proud of who you are."
Chad, an academic in Baltimore, Maryland, said: "It was a really nice moment."
"Our son had already been asking some similar questions when we were in the store just before picking the decorations up."
"SoI was kind of expecting he might have some more at home."
Chad and Michael met 16 years ago after catching each other's eyes in a gay bar.
This summer will now be their 10-year wedding anniversary and their son was born three years ago.
When the couple decided to have a child, they spoke about how to approach these sometimes difficult discussions.
The pair decided to approach the topics with transparency and a view of being kind and respectful to others.
Michael, a corporate retailer in Baltimore, Maryland, said: "We just want to make everything seem as normal as possible."
"By being transparent about these things and not shying away from the conversation, we can destigmatise some of the issues."
"And these days, it feels like Pride Month can be a perfect way into the discussion."
"We also like to use children's books that explain that families can look different; some with two mummies or daddies, some with a mum and dad or some with a single parent but that all these families are still valid and important."
Michael added: "He was pretty much all sorted after that moment on the porch with Chad in that he hasn't asked any further questions."
"But we know they will come and we feel prepared for when they do."
