Around 70 percent of flooded roads have been cleared of mud as of Monday afternoon in Rongjiang County of southwest China's Guizhou Province, where many evacuated residents have returned home with resumption of water and electricity supplies. Rongjiang County, widely known as the birthplace of the Village Super League, or Cun Chao - a rural football league uniting over 100 village teams and captivating fans nationwide - has mobilized 29,000 people to clear mud from flooded roads and streets and carry out disinfection starting early Sunday morning, after the Duliu River's water level dropped following the latest round of flood peak that passed through Rongjiang County at around 20:00 on Saturday. The mud-clearing work at the Cun Chao stadium is expected to be completed on Monday or Tuesday. After that, it will be further disinfected and closed for reconstruction. The Cun Chao stadium, which is situated at a low-lying urban area, was submerged twice by flood peaks on June 24 and 28. Launched in May 2023, Cun Chao has grown into one of China's most prominent grassroots football events, attracting international attention for its community spirit and festive atmosphere.
