Storyline: Chinese automaker BYD doubles down on Hungary expansion [Voice_over] We begin this story with the wheels are already in motion — aboard a brand new electric bus, built not in China, but in Hungary. This bus is silent, sleek, and for the manufacturer BYD, a symbol of its ambition to drive deep into Europe's auto market. [Sound_bite] Zhang Daochun, Managing Director, BYD Europe Commercial Vehicles: "Our bus has really good quality, very good energy consumption." [Voice_over] BYD opened the Komarom plant in 2017. Since then, they've produced more than 700 electric buses — including new 18-meter articulated models. A plan to expand that production is now underway. [Stand_up] Pablo Gutierrez, Reporter: "This factory employs more than 500 people today. But with a new expansion, it will double they say. Most of the buses they produce here look like this one. They carry BYD's latest battery technology and can travel up to 400 kilometers in a single charge." [Voice_over] It's more than buses. BYD is moving its European headquarters to Budapest this year. For Hungary, it's a sign of growing trust — and growing investment. [Sound_bite] Peter Szijjarto, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade: "In Hungary, we choose connection and mutual respect. We believe in working together globally. This is a great opportunity—when East and West join forces, big things happen. Hungary and China working together are already delivering real results." [Voice_over] For Komarom, a town of fewer than 20,000 people, it's a quiet revolution and a cleaner one too. [Sound_bite] Zhang Daochun, Managing Director, BYD Europe Commercial Vehicles: "Komarom is a very important city for Hungary and this city is very friendly to us, no matter [whether it comes to] employees, no matter [whether it comes to the local] community, [the] environment, no matter [whether it come to] taxi [service]. Everything is very good for us. That's one of the reasons why we want to expand our plant here." [Voice_over] Part of the expansion could also include the production of the chassis for London's new double-decker electric buses. In this quiet corner of northwest Hungary, the future of transportation has arrived in quiet, electric motion. [Restrictions : No access Chinese mainland]
