Brave tourist leaps into 500ft high rooftop pool during storm
A tourist fearlessly jumped into an infinity pool atop a 500ft skyscraper amid a fierce storm.
Footage shows Cem Kaya from Turkey sprinting across an empty rooftop lounge before diving into the water as strong winds howled in Bangkok, Thailand, on May 16.
Powerful gusts created ripples across the surface and shook a tree beside the pool but Cem launched himself in without hesitation.
He splashed down and vanished for a moment underwater before reappearing at the far end, gliding with butterfly strokes.
Cem said: ‘It was a regular day in Bangkok when the weather turned suddenly and heavy rain started out of nowhere.'
The rain intensified after Cem's brief swim and a security guard asked them to leave the area.
He said: ‘Security came and took us out. It was too dangerous at that time to swim.
‘It was not smart. I must admit I was scared after I entered the water.'
Infinity rooftop pools are designed to look like they blend into the sky but just below the water's edge is a hidden basin that catches overflow and prevents swimmers from falling.
Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are at the start of their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms. The rudimentary infrastructure often struggles with the deluge, leading to widespread flash floods.
