King Charles and President Macron parade through Windsor on a horse-drawn carriage during the first state visit by France in 17 years.

Footage from earlier today shows King Charles and the French President gleefully waving at the crowds as their carriage parades through Windsor.

They were followed by the Queen and Brigitte Macron and a third carriage took Princess Kate and Prince William and France's armed forces minister Sebastien Lecornu and French culture minister Rachida Dati.

The procession passed Windsor and Eton Riverside Train Station, and headed up the high street towards Windsor Castle.

Passersby said it was "great" to see the King in high spirits."

This is the first state visit in Windsor since the President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins, visited back in 2014.

The palace said the King and Queen are hosting the first couple of France at Windsor due to the Buckingham Palace Reservicing Programme.
